Probably the easiest would be this: cp -R "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/mindlessLump" "/Volumes/External Volume/" Obviously change the command so that it matches your environment. i have seen the mac people at the genius bar have leopard on a harddrive for uses... I can't see any other readily apparent way of trying to back up whatever data there is to salvage. You can search it from there as well. With a bad volume like yours, this may be your best bet. Check This Out and choosing read onlyClick to expand...
