Maybe the hub tricks the software into thinking it's a more generic camera? you have HDV 1080i60 on tape, your camera is setup to send out HDV 1080i60 out via FW and you are using the HDV 1080i60 Easy Setup in FCP)? And it is doing the same exact thing that you described, everytime I go to Log and Capture something, Final Cut locks up, but when I unplug the FW cord its i have found sometimes the firewire port on the motherboard doesnt wanna work sometimes and a cheap card normally does the trick.
