Thank you for posting this - I was going crazy trying to get it to run at all... my response The only reason I'm skeptical of these two is that I did a pure upgrade (committed all my local changes to SVN, deleted the entire eclipse directory and workspace). When I got the software and components from the http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.4.xsite it started working. Due to licenses limitations, SVN client aren't bundled with SVN any more. Is it possible that there is a problem with the path which is preventing the JavaHL from finding the Subversion libraries? Cool.
